Hazan
Materials: Acrylic Paint on Canvas Year: 2019 Class: Painting Artist Statement: My father was never one for animals, even for for dogs for the longest time. But the moment Hazan, our brilliant German Shepard, stepped into our lives it was if everything I knew about my father had switched gears. Many people judge far to quickly before they experience, Hazan taught me that. And with that dog I also saw a portion of my father, noble, strong, and still somehow young. I like to think this piece represents the both of them in a special way. |

Mi Madre Querida Materials: Acrylic Paint, Acrylic Paper Year: 2019 Class: Painting Artist Statement: My mother is the sweetest person in my life. She always has been, and I doubt that'll ever change. She's devoted to her family, to me-to my father, and had it not been for her I would've certainly starved to death without her wonderful cooking. I owe her my eternal love-and with it I hoped to show her in a new light with this piece, forever bright and eternal, just like a lily. For with her amazing love for flowers, I couldn't fight the temptation to paint her like one. |

La Llorona {The Weeping Women}
Materials: Drawing pencils, Sharpie Year:2018 Class: Drawing Artist Statement: Since I can remember, my mother told me bits and pieces of the legend of La Llorona, or the weeping women. As the tale goes a beautiful women fell in love and had children with her husband, but he started to turn away from her and frightened of losing him the women committed an unforgivable act. She drowned her children, and regretting it immediately her spirit is said to forever wander in search of them. I found the tale inspiring solemn, so using just some sharpie and pencil I was able to create my of representation of the story. |
